Illegal clothing imports allow people to sell their products at a cheaper price, much cheaper than the products made in the domestic clothing industry.

Therefore, competition with such cheap products has become a concern for local retailers in South Africa.

In South Africa, the distribution of counterfeit designer clothing is widening, and imports from Asian countries such as China, Bangladesh and Vietnam have also risen.

Since November 2009, the Customs has confiscated the fake world cup project worth 219 million 80 thousand Rand, of which more than 366 thousand sweaters, and in the fiscal year 2008-09, customs officials seized 731 batches of counterfeit goods worth 379 million 622 thousand and 919 Rand.

If China continues to dominate the global trade in clothing and textiles, around 30 million people worldwide may be unemployed, according to a website of the National Textile Organization Committee of the United States.

A large number of cheap Asian imports and trade and policy imbalances between China and South Africa have resulted in 10 thousand unemployed people in the South African textile and clothing industry each year, according to the 2009 Cape Apparel Association.

In 2007, the South African government introduced a two-year quota system to reduce imports of clothing from Asia.

But the system did not provide enough time to adjust the industrial structure and increase production capacity, even if South Africa could control imports of goods from China or other countries.
